There are three main branches of magic: divination, sorcery, and rune magic. Anybody (even ferines) can use rune magic, but only seers are capable of practicing magic without the use of a conduit. Though divination can be used by all seers (to an extent), sorcery can only be used by oracles who've relinquished their powers of divination.

    Divination

    Divination

Divination is the magical ability to receive divine messages, whether or not the seer is capable of deciphering them. There are three major disciplines of divination: lucid divination, arcane divination, and shadow divination.

    Lucid Divination
Lucid divination is the ability to decipher divine messages and communicate with the gods. It encompasses all of arcane and shadow divination. The only ability exclusive to lucid divination is dream Telepathy.

    • πŸ’™ Dream Telepathy: the ability to enter and/or manipulate the dreams of others.

    Arcane Divination
Arcane Divination is the ability to receive messages from the gods, regardless of the ability to decipher them.

    • πŸ’™ Divine Hearing: the ability to receive audial messages from the gods.
    • πŸ’™ Divine Seeing: the ability to receive visual messages from the gods.

    Shadow Divination
Shadow divination is the ability to communicate between planes of existence. This includes the divine plane, the spirit plane, and the afterlife.

    • πŸ’™ Divine Reading: the ability to receive and transcribe messages from the dead.
    • πŸ’™ Divine Whispering: the ability to communicate with the gods.
    • πŸ’™ Necromancy: resurrection of the dead.

    Sorcery

    Sorcery

Sorcery is the magical ability of transformation, including transformations of the body, land, elements, and psychology of a person. With the exception of thaumaturges, sorcerers must perform a divine ritual before the gods will allow them to use their powers.

All sorcerers are former oracles. In order to become a sorcerer, an oracle must renounce their powers of divination sometime after the age of 16. Once their powers are renounced, the sorcerer can devote themself to one of the 5 disciplines of sorcery. They can repledge their allegiance to their matron or patron deity, or they can join the convent of another deity.

    Thaumaturgy
Thaumaturgy is the ability to tap directly into a deity’s power. Thaumaturges can practice all other forms of sorcery. Thaumaturges are incredibly rare, as they must find a master who will guide them on gaining favor with each deity in the sects of sorcery. Until they gain favor with each god, a thaumaturge cannot perform any magic, including both divination and sorcery. Once a thaumaturge has completed their training, their master will reward them with a staff or bladeless wand, which allows them to cast as many spells as they want, without fear of retribution. Though other sorcerers can use staffs or wands, they are extrememly rare to come by, making the price astronomical. Unlike other sorcerers, thaumaturges often use staffs or bladeless wands when casting spells. This allows them to cast as many spells as they want, without fear of corruption.

    Elemental Sorcery
Elemental sorcery is the ability to manipulate the elements around oneself. Like thaumaturgy, elemental sorcery isn't tied to one single deity; however, an elemental sorcerer can only serve one deity within the sects of sorcery. All other gods must be outside the sects of sorcery. To obtain a new element, the sorcerer must give an offering at the deity's shrine. Afterward, the god will ask them to complete a quest. If the quest is successful, the sorcerer can cast spells within that deity’s domain. If the quest is incomplete or unsuccessful, the sorcerer will be banished from that deity’s domain. In some cultures, elemental sorcerers are encouraged to complete as many quests as they can over the course of their lifetime.

    Shapeshifting
Shapeshifting is the ability to transform one’s own body in accordance with their covenant. Please see the species and ethnicities page for more information.

    Bewitching
Bewitching is the ability to transform the feelings and psychology of the people around oneself. The capabilities are dependent on their covenant. Please see the species and ethnicities page for more information.

    Terraforming
Terraforming is the ability to transform one’s surroundings. Unlike the other disciplines, a terraformer's abilities aren’t tied to their convent.
